Hares Ear Nymph

Hare's Ear nymphs are absolutely classic and incredibly effective patterns - they're honestly one of the most important flies you can have in your box!
What Are Hare's Ear Nymphs? The Hare's Ear nymph is a traditional pattern that uses natural hare's ear fur for the body. It's been around for decades and remains one of the most effective general nymph patterns ever created.
Key Characteristics:
  • Hare's Ear Dubbing: Natural fur creates a buggy, lifelike appearance
  • Gold Ribbing: Wire or tinsel ribbing for segmentation and flash
  • Wing Case: Usually dark feather fibers or synthetic material
  • Natural Colors: Tan, brown, olive variations matching the fur
  • Versatile Sizes: Tied on hooks from size 8-18
What They Imitate:
  • Mayfly Nymphs: Excellent general mayfly larva imitation
  • Caddis Larvae: Works brilliantly for emerging caddis
  • Stonefly Nymphs: Smaller stonefly species
  • General Nymphs: Any subsurface aquatic insect life
Popular Variations:
  • Gold Ribbed Hare's Ear (GRHE): The classic version
  • Goldhead Hare's Ear: With tungsten or brass bead head
  • Flashback Hare's Ear: With synthetic flashback wing case
  • Beadhead Hare's Ear: Weighted version for deeper fishing
