Tungsten Bead

What Are Tungsten Bead Nymphs? Tungsten bead nymphs are weighted nymph patterns that use tungsten beads instead of traditional brass or lead. Tungsten is much denser than other materials, making these flies incredibly effective for getting down deep quickly.
Key Advantages of Tungsten:
  • Super Dense: Tungsten is about 1.7 times heavier than lead, so smaller beads sink faster
  • Quick Descent: Gets down to feeding fish rapidly, even in fast currents

When to Use Them:
  • Deep Water: When you need to get down quickly in deeper pools
  • Fast Currents: The weight cuts through fast-flowing water
  • Pressured Fish: When trout are holding deep and being selective
  • Cold Water: When fish are lethargic and feeding near the bottom
