The Greenwell's Glory as a wet fly - excellent choice! While most people know it as a classic dry fly, the wet fly version is equally deadly and often overlooked by many anglers.

Wet Fly Differences:

Hackle: Tied much sparser and swept back, rather than the full, upright hackle of the dry version
Body: Same yellow-green/olive dubbing, but often tied slightly heavier
Wing: Starling or similar, but tied more streamlined and closer to the body
Hook: Often tied on slightly heavier wire hooks
No Floatant: Obviously designed to sink rather than float!

How to Fish It:

Traditional Wet Fly Swing: Cast across and downstream, let it swing in the current
Team of Flies: Works brilliantly as part of a traditional wet fly cast with 2-3 flies
Induced Take: Lift the rod tip slightly at the end of the swing to induce a take
Stillwater: Fish it on a slow retrieve or static under an indicator

When It's Most Effective:

Subsurface Feeding: When trout are feeding just below the surface but not quite rising
Between Hatches: Perfect searching pattern when there's no obvious surface activity
Deeper Water: Excellent for fishing the deeper runs and pools
Overcast Days: The olive coloration really comes alive in low light

Why It Works: The wet version imitates emerging or drowned duns, spent spinners, or general subsurface food items. That distinctive furnace hackle still provides incredible fish appeal even when wet!

Traditional Approach: Try fishing it as the top dropper in a traditional Scottish-style cast with maybe a March Brown on the middle dropper and a Butcher or similar on the point fly.
