Is fishing on the river Loxely free as heard it is owned by Sheffield council, where is best place to leave car,Malins park and ride or Loxely park.

cheers for the quick reply. i bought myself a cheap river rod (7ft 3/4 aftm)which in hindsight was a bit TOO cheap. so i’m using a 4 line but the leader is just a pain. maybe i need to take a break a do a bit more reading up on the subject. a guy in our local tackle shop is good (bennets of sheffield (bosfish.co.uk)) so might go and torment him for advice on where is fishing well at the moment. anyway thanks again and as always any tips and advice shall be gratefully received.

Hiya, fulling mill flourocarbon is usually pretty good, but in all flourocarbon should sink as it is heavier than the water, so lord knows whats gone wrong there, wonder if its a dodgy one? I have climax on mine at the moment and it does the job. Are you using a smaller rod on the river, what line are you using? I always go #4/5 or 5/6# I am no expert though just find a lighter rod easier to cast in, the way this weather is going I dont think many are fishing rivers :(

    Cheers

hi bob not been around for a while (took the lovely wife away for her birthday.) had a terrible day on the river on my last outing. i have another question for you no matter how much sinkant i put on my leader i cant get the bloody thing to sink.( i use fulling mill flurocarbon). i tried a new stretch of river (river loxley in sheffield) the fish were there but clearly not interested in what i was offering. to make a bad day worse i snapped the top ring off my rod. river fishing!!!! i’m tempted to stick to the reservoirs i know where i am on those!!!

Hi Pete, it is challenge on a river but also more satisfying, the weather has been so bad I have not been out for 2 weeks, did you manage to get out the other day? how did you do?

Just keep at it and dont be afraid to ask fellow fisherman, I learnt a lot from asking and copying others, although the fish never stick to the rules do they lol

    Cheers

Mending lines up and down stream combats any drag and the fly flows downstream naturally, just takes a bit of practice :)
